Cash, cards and cash machines

  • The dirham is a closed currency, so you usually get it once you are in Morocco: at the airport, in banks and exchange offices, or from cash machines.
  • Keep your exchange receipts: you may need them to change dirhams back before you leave.
  • Cards are accepted in most hotels, larger restaurants and shops. Markets, small cafés, taxis and tips are paid in cash, so keep some small notes and coins with you.
  • In the souks prices are not fixed: agreeing on the price before you buy is normal.
